What happens when you blend the sensuality of Sade, the spiritual resonance of Enya, the power of a mesmerizing live performer and genre pioneer, whose seductive masculine voice is already well-known around the world? The phenomenon is known as THE EARTHMAN EXPERIENCE featuring lead vocalist Richard “Earthman” Laurent. Earthman was heard on his entire original score of HBO’s Pledge of Allegiance, music for the History Channel’s History Mystery and numerous TV and radio commercials such as The Goodwill Games, Oil of Olay, Citibank, Winn Dixie, and Click Radio. Sound out of this world? So does his remarkable journey to THE EARTHMAN EXPERIENCE.
This veteran of new music genres, Haitian-born Laurent first pioneered the emergence of “House Music” in the late ‘80’s as leader of MOONFOU, selling 250,000 of his original ATA Records hit, “I SAY SHUT UP” his first time out. Building on this amazing debut, he formed “KRAZE” in the mid ‘90’s with his two sisters and ex-Madonna boyfriend, Norris Borroughs. With their very first outing for Big Beat Records, they hit 1 worldwide on Billboard selling 850,000 copies. This sparked an international “KRAZE” tour, which took them to Australia, the UK, Amsterdam, Ireland, France, Switzerland, Germany, Japan and Tunisia.
By now, Laurent had already been researching a new passion called Bio Sonics, healing through vocal tones, frequencies, and sonic vibrations, the theory behind ultrasound. While in Tunisia, he sought out a group of healers he read were already doing this work. Hooked and fascinated, he stayed for many months studying with them. His swift and remarkable proficiency in channeling the healing, vibrational tones of meditative vocal chanting led the healers to dub him “EARTHMAN.” His latest album, “The Beginning” is a strong testimony to his powerful music and remarkable vocal prowess.
In 2007, Earthman joined forces with fellow Haitian DJ Hard Hittin Harry (born Harry D’Janite in Port au Prince, Haiti). Harry became Earthman’s DJ and Musical Director and shortly thereafter they were on stage at New York’s Club SOB’s, the official debut launch of The Earthman Experience. Harry spent the majority of his life in New Jersey and eventually returned to Brooklyn where he currently resides. The landmark of Harry’s DJ career was his involvement with The Fugees back in 1993. He became their DJ and toured with them, with their debut album project, “Blunted on Reality.” Currently, Harry’s schedule of DJ gigs is full: He spins at Hotel Gansevoort on weekends, Adidas/Heritage store, as well as Diesel USA and Nike Town for corporate events.
He has held residencies at Red Bamboo, Club Element, 230 5th Penthouse, Beluga Sushi in Cincinati, Negril Village, Red Bamboo, Chocolate Bar in Brooklyn. He was featured twice on BET’s “Rap City” in July 2007 and June 2006 as the on-air DJ. Earthman and Harry masterminded THE EARTHMAN EXPERIENCE collective which consists of Earthman on lead vocals, congas, guitar, and keyboards, DJ Hard Hittin Harry on turntables, Shayshahn “Phearnone” MacPhearson on violin, and Shaun Kelly and Senfu on percussion. “The world needs THE EARTHMAN EXPERIENCE ready to spread the soulful and intoxicating sounds of the next new wave of music to people everywhere.”
