"Music changes the feeling of a room, I see and feel it happen all the time. When I collaborate with musicians from other countries, we merge. We don't need to speak the same language, share the same religion, or even philosophies, but we can make music together. That for me is evidence that we can co-exist in harmony. But a lot of us are cut off from our sensuality – the music within – and find it too difficult to find our reflection in one another, so it makes it easier to be intimidated by, dismiss, or even cause harm. Music is a great teacher for me in that respect. It's real and sensual and keeps me in love."
Morley's artistic journey began not with music, but with dance and poetry. She won a full scholarship to the Alvin Ailey American Dance Centre but when a knee injury derailed her career as a dancer, she turned to choreography and formed her own dance company, Undercurrents Dance Theater. With her new company up and running, she had the opportunity to work with jazz legend and civil rights activists Max Roach, Ossie Davis and Babatunde Olatunji as well as Casandra Wilson, an experience that brought her face to face with the power of music as a vehicle for change.
Morley is currently the voice for Ralph Lauren's fragrance "My Romance", she has toured with Dave Matthews, Raul Midon, Amadou et Mariam, and has shared festivals and the stage with Joan Baez, Leonard Cohen, Toshi Reagon, Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon, Queen Latifa, Sarah Mclachlan, Cheryl Crow and David Amram to name a few…In 2009 Morley was an honored guest at The Nomad Women Festival in M’Hamid Desert deep in the Sahara and sang with Nomad women form Maurittania, Algeria and Morocco. As a writer, collaborator and arranger, Morley has worked with Eve, Richard Bona and Yuri Buenaventura.
