Eric Kurimski is one of New York’s most sought after guitarists for Afro Peruvian music. He holds a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Jazz from SUNY Purchase and the Aaron Copland School of Music in New York respectively. In 2002 he began intense studies of Afro Peruvian rhythms with the esteemed guitarist, maestro Carlos Hayre, who influenced and modernized the advancement of Afro-Peruvian music from the 1940’s through the present day. Carlos became Eric's professor/mentor and has proved to be very important to his musical career.

Now, fusing his knowledge of jazz with rhythms of Peru and Latin America, Eric has dedicated himself to defining a new sound integrating the Peruvian Cajon (box) as the principal percussion instrument in a jazz setting. He has toured throughout the Americas including the United States, Canada, Peru, Mexico, Cuba, Ecuador and Puerto Rico. He has performed or recorded with Oscar Stagnaro, Marc Ribot, Gabriel Alegria, Edmar Castañeda, Eva Ayllon, Carlos Hayre, Aquiles Baez, Edward Perez, Sofia Koutsovitis, Roberto “Chino” Bolanos, Manuel Donayre, Edith Barr, Mariela Valencia and William Luna.

Eric's debut release "Réplica" (Lima Limon Records) recorded in Peru, was voted Best Album of 2008 at Latin Jazz Corner. It features Grammy award winning percussionist Juan Medrano Cotito (Susana Baca Group), bassist Edward Perez (Mark Murphy, Hector Martignon and Jane Bunnett) as well as some of Peru's finest Afro Peruvian musicians; Sergio Valdeos (Susana Baca Group,) Yuri Juarez (Gabriel Alegrias Afro Peruvian Jazz Ensemble,) Charo Goyoneche (Teatro del Milenio) and the unequaled maestro Carlos Hayre. This ground breaking recording mixes traditional Afro Peruvian music with modern jazz.
