A renowned saxophonist, producer, composer and arranger, Gandelman has been engrossed in the music industry since he was 15 and played flute in the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra. The son of a classical pianist and a conductor, he didn't need much to steer him toward classical training. Later, he left Brazil to study at Boston's Berklee College of Music and became devoted to the saxophone in 1977. After graduating from Berklee and returning to Brazil, he became a sought-after session musician, participating in more than 600 albums in 10 years. Versatile and inventive, his compositions showcase his love of American jazz mixed with Brazilian popular music. He is known as Brazil's best saxophonist, and for 15 consecutive years, he took home the Jornal do Brasil newspaper's award for Best Brazilian Instrumentalist. He has produced numerous albums, including one for Gal Costa, and has written movie soundtracks, all while continuing to thrill audiences with his stellar performances.
