Deborah Latz returns to the Blue Note to celebrate her fourth CD release, sur l’instant (in the moment), on June Moon Productions. Latz, brings together three highly regarded musicians from both sides of the Atlantic for a straight-ahead session recorded in Paris. She first collaborated with the celebrated French pianist, Alain Jean-Marie, at Sept Lezards in Paris in 2005, and they’ve been fast friends and musical partners since. First-call bassist Gilles Naturel, who plays in Jean-Marie’s band, joined them for performances whenever Latz was in Paris and the band became renowned for its lyricism and telepathic interplay.
Latz has earned a worldwide reputation for her performances and CDs. Her recording career began in 2004 with Toward Love, featuring Jimmy Wormworth. As Dan McClenaghan wrote in All About Jazz: “Her voice rings with a fetching richness... I’m bewitched.” Her 2008 sophomore CD Lifeline featuring Joel Frahm, was hailed by Kyle O’Brien, Jazz Society of Oregon for “making each note count...one of the finest balladeers.” Her 2013 release Fig Tree received stellar reviews from NEA Jazz Master, Sheila Jordan, “Deborah is a beautiful singer and a great talent!” Scott Yanow wrote in the liner notes: “...Latz demonstrates an outstanding range of technique and creative musicality that places her at the forefront of jazz today.”
