“Latz demonstrates an outstanding range of technique and creative musicality that places her at the forefront of jazz today,”
says renowned music critic, Scott Yanow. Latz’ breakout, third CD, Fig Tree (2013) proved her artistic mastery as a highly inventive artist who stretches musical boundaries, at times with whimsy, and at times with heart wrenching emotion.
"Deborah is a beautiful singer and a great talent. Fig Tree is wonderful. Really wonderful!" — Sheila Jordan, 2012 NEA JAZZ MASTER
"Latz is in there with the best of them: Horn and Rebecca Parris.” — C. Michael Bailey, ALL ABOUT JAZZ
Deborah’s Fig Tree tour in September 2013 took her to Paris, France where she reunited with jazz piano luminary, Alain Jean-Marie, and made her debut at Sunset/Sunside. While in Paris, Deborah recorded her fourth album in trio with Alain on piano and Gilles Naturel on double bass. The repertoire is sparing, elegantly direct and filled with rich ballads. Look for the release on JMP in March 2015!
Latz comes to jazz after an award-winning career in dramatic theater, where she garnered a Best Actress Award at the Jerzy Grotowski Theatre Festival in Poland for her one-woman performance of ‘Juliet’, and received rave reviews in New York and Europe for ‘Travels With Ma Own Self,’ the one-woman musical which she wrote, produced and performed.
Based in New York, Deborah sings in residency at Cornelia Street Cafe with her duo and trio series. Dedicated to bringing the joy of vocal expression to others, Latz maintains a busy voice studio and devotes time to at-risk youth through the non-profit organization, Art Start.
“Deborah is not just a singer. She is a true performer. Spend an hour or two at a concert or listening to her albums and be taken away. 5 STARS” — Kelly Koenig, EXAMINER.COM
