“When Music Imitates Life”, is the mantra behind the musical force that is behind Brooklyn’s fashion forward, genre bending band ThatsMyCole. More than just an indie band, ThatsMyCole’s Cole Williams (lead vocalist/composer/producer/artist révolutionnaire) and David Bailis (guitar/ sampler/MD/arranger) has developed a body of work and live show and that quickly a creative empire.
ThatsMyCole has continued their music takeover with the release of several singles, a video and tours with another project , Pimps Of Joytime and a monthly residency at NYC’s Rockwood Music Hall. ThatsMyCole has utilized her NYC appearances to create “rock style” jams on songs from her 2012 release Out Of The Basement, Out Of The Box, and debut new tunes from their upcoming album entitled Pet Project For Projection Purposes Only set to be released in early 2015. This next batch of songs has the signature “Cole Williams” out of the box feel, and spotlights her songwriting and production.
Cole’s voice is not her only representation in the media. Her love for vintage shopping and brilliant eye for color combinations, textures and cuts have allowed her to style her band and gotten her spotted on the street and pulled in for fashion photo shoots with such designers as Elyvette, Makabu and KALYSSCOLORS, and for publications like Afro Punk, Mute Mag and Essence Magazine. David Bailis, a Berklee graduate brings his background in jazz /afro-beat with rock guitar and sampler to enhance their live show cleverly named HouseofCole, which more than just a show, ThatsMyCole is creating an experience.
ThatsMyCole is the pioneer’s soul mate; the anthem for some and the voice for others. “I keep it real in every lyric, musical line and inflection,” she says. And what’s the appeal for the empowered listener? “I’m always growing, never arriving, only passing through. And then I grow.”
