After a long journey, which brought her all the way from Dubai to South India to Boston, and now New York, vocalist and songwriter, Shilpa Ananth continues to seek the perfect balance between all her different worlds. Her music is a blend of her Indian roots, with flavorful Jazz chords, and Hip Hop styled beats, and she sings in four languages - Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, and English. Her original music represents at least two languages on each track, usually English mixed with her native tongue, Tamil.
Shilpa's soulful voice feels like butter, as she strives to stay true to her past and present musical influences - A.R Rahman and Robert Glasper- and build a bridge between the music from the East and West.
She is currently working on her five-song EP, titled 'Why Not?', which is to be released in September 2014.
