Hailing originally from Tokyo, guitarist Masami Ishikawa relocated to New York City in 1990, earning his bachelor's degree from The New School in 1992. After graduating, he played with Brad Meldau, Larry Goldings, Arnie Lawrence, and many others. He soon moved back to Japan and enjoyed an extensive career playing with top Japanese jazz artists, including Geroge Otsuka, Masabumi Yamaguchi, and Colgen Suzuki.
Ishikawa returned to New York at the end of 2000, and now, over 10 years later, he continues to perform at many clubs throughout the city. He has collaborated wtih L.D. Frazier, Lonnie Gasperini, Norika Ueda, and many other notable artists. Boasting a neo soul style with its roots planted firmly in tradition, he counts among his influences guitar giants like Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, Jimi Hendrix, George Benson, Django Reinhardt, and Jim Hall.
