ABOUT KENNY WERNER

Kenny Werner is a world-class pianist and composer. His prolific output of compositions, recordings, and publications continue to impact audiences around the world. Born in Brooklyn in 1951 and growing up on Long Island, Werner began playing and performing at a young age, first recording on television at the age of 11. He formed his own trio in 1981 with drummer Tom Rainey and bassist Ratzo Harris. He has worked closely with legendary harmonica player Toots Thielemans, Betty Buckley, Joe Lovano, Ari Hoenig, Johannes Weidenmuellerg, Lionel Loueke and Miguel Zenon and countless others. A Guggenheim Fellowship Award winner, Werner is also a world-class educator. His groundbreaking book on improvisation, Effortless Mastery (2006), is required reading for all aspiring jazz musicians.

ABOUT JANIS MANN

"A first class jazz singer!" Scott Yanow, jazz critic and author, proclaims. At once both a striking song stylist and a fearless improviser, Janis Mann is that rare artist who can sweep you away with her captivating sound. She is a true jazz singer in the manner of Carmen McRae, Betty Carter, and Shirley Horn, yet with a sound all her own. An exciting and engaging performer, Janis' rich timbre, flexibility, and range often invite comparisons to Sarah Vaughan. "Janis Mann continues to generate some of the best vocal music anywhere." These words from Cadence Magazine reviewer Alan Bargebuhr confirm what fans of this award-winning singer have known for years. Some of the jazz luminaries she has sung or recorded with include: Roy Haynes, Diane Schuur, Jack Sheldon, Jon Mayer, Ross Tompkins, John Heard, Red Holloway, and Dave Frishberg, earning their praises.
