Pat Van Dyke is a drummer, composer, producer, and band leader. Equally comfortable behind the drum kit, as he is penning compositions at the Fender Rhodes, PVD balances the rhythmic intensity of true-school hip hop & experimental electronic music with the rich harmony & refreshing subtlety of jazz. Drawing from a diverse palette of sounds, PVD's music features live instrumentation alongside analog synthesizers, vintage keyboards, and lush horn sections, straddling the boundaries of electronic music, jazz, and golden era hip-hop. Pat has produced records with such notable artists from the "golden-era" of hip hop as Sadat X (Brand Nubian), John Robinson (Scienz of Life), Shabaam Sahdeeq, EL Da Sensei (Artifacts), as well the younger generation of artists like Silent Knight & Darryl (8thW1). PVD's music has been featured on broadcast television shows like NBC's 'Last Call with Carson Daly', cable networks; MTV, VH1, Esquire, and the Oxygen Network, as well as in viral videos from the likes of VICE Magazine and Canadian skate site; PUSH.ca.
Along with a rotating cast of NYC's finest musicians, PVD has brought his unique LIVE blend of raw funk & organic hip-hop to packed houses at The Blue Note, S.O.B's, NJPAC, The Knitting Factory, Southpaw, as well as other venues; large & small, throughout NYC & beyond. Recent releases include PVD Breaks Volume I & II (original breakbeat series), a full length LP with NJ emcee; Darryl (8thW1) entitled 'Lux DeVille', as well as a limited edition vinyl 7" single with (MC) John Robinson entitled "Miles & Trane": a hip hop tribute to the two jazz legends which reached #1 on college radio stations nation-wide and sold out at nearly all online vinyl retailers within the first month.
PVD's newest release: 'Technicolor HI-FI' is available worldwide on 12/10/13 on Limited Edition Vinyl (Cotter Records) and at all fine digital retailers. Pat will be joined on stage tonight at the Blue Note by pianist; Jesse Fischer (Soul Cycle), bassist; Joshua David Barrett (Q-Tip / Judah Tribe), and MCs; John Robinson & Darryl. Together they will perform selections from 'Technicolor HI-FI'.
