"Gizmo is creativity in the flesh. Labeling his art is useless, with a single note, the 21-year-old can take you from genre to genre in his music. You have to hear it to believe it, folks."

Reared in Willingboro, NJ/Philadelphia in a household brimming with the influences of his Puerto Rican and African-American heritage, Gizmo was introduced to the sounds of various genres at an early age. Those influences merged and led Gizmo to attend the esteemed Berklee College of Music. Through college, Gizmo has been building his craft as a music director by arranging and performing sell-out shows with artists like Bilal and Lalah Hathaway. He has performed, recorded, and shared the stage with many artists including Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Meshell Ndegeocello, Pharoahe Monch, Karreim Riggins, Zap Mama, and many more.

Although Gizmo is widely recognized as a bassist and music director, he has spent the last year working on his new album “Red Balloon,” where he is showcasing another, and perhaps the most captivating side of himself as a singer, songwriter, multi instrumentalist, and producer. He has collaborated with many world-renowned musicians including co-producer Derrick Hodge, Casey Benjamin, Jamire Williams, George W. Russell, Jr, Ilan Bar-Lavi, and co-producer Gabo Lugo to create a compelling record that expresses a personal side of Gizmo.

Buttressed by the contributions of a vibrant collective of mentors, colleagues, and classmates, Red Balloon stands firmly as a dynamic undertaking by a promising young artist. Coalesced by Gizmo’s own unique talent, it is a brazen statement from a new cadre of artists seeking to meld their formal jazz training with new sounds and modalities. It’s clear that Gizmo and Red Balloon are representative of this group of artists in a chapter of change with an allegiance to the groove.
