Matt Dickey is a guitarist, arranger, composer, and audio engineer and producer based in NYC. Featuring some of NYC's finest young musical talent, Try This At Home is his over nine-piece band, playing music from the group's 2010 self-titled album as well as popular and obscure jazz and funk classics.
Dickey has been influenced by an array of different artists, ranging from James Brown, Herbie Hancock, and The Grateful Dead to composers like Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, Tito Puente, Igor Stravinsky, Claude Debussy, and many others. More recently, DJ Shadow, DJ Cam, Portishead, and Peter Herbolzheimer have stuck out as inspiring forces.
Aside from Try This At Home, Dickey's musical projects have included leading his own former band The Truth (for whom some of Try This At Home's music was originally written), and sideman status with various NYC projects such as Loud Apartment, K-Erv and The Sound, Flight Time, Megan Danielle, Ebonie Smith, Dr. Bellows, Avatar, and Ekayani. He has also often played guitar with R&B and soul singer R.C. Holmes, and he has performed with Big Sam's Funky Nation.
