Since the 2004 release of his critically acclaimed album When I Fall in Love, Chris Botti has become America's largest-selling jazz instrumental artist. His success has crossed over to audiences usually reserved for pop music, achieving several Grammy nominations, multiple gold and platinum certifications, and three No. 1 albums on Billboard's Jazz Albums listings.

Over the past three decades, Botti has recorded and performed with the best in music, including Frank Sinatra, Sting, Josh Groban, Michael Bublé, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, John Mayer, Andrea Bocelli, Joshua Bell, and Aerosmith's own Steven Tyler. Hitting the road for as many as 300 days per year, the trumpeter and his incredible band have also performed with many of the finest symphonies and at some of the world's most prestigious venues.

Impressions, Botti's 2012 Columbia Records release, is the latest in a stellar parade of albums – including To Love Again: The Duets (2005), Italia (2007), and the CD/DVD Chris Botti in Boston (2009) – that has firmly established him as a clarion voice in the American contemporary jazz scene. Playing with his uniquely expressive sound and soaring musical imagination, Botti is joined on the disc by featured artists Andrea Bocelli, Vince Gill, Herbie Hancock, Mark Knopfler, David Foster, and Caroline Campbell in a warm, intimate celebration of melodic balladry.

As Botti began his planning for the new album, he was determined to include some "familiar songs" – songs that reached back to his fascination with the melody and balladry that have been essential to his music since he first picked up a trumpet. Songs like "What a Wonderful World," "Summertime," and "Over the Rainbow" certainly fulfill that desire. But the album's far-ranging program also encompasses many other areas, deeply influenced by conversations Botti has enjoyed with fans during his perpetual worldwide touring.

After spending the early part of his career in settings reaching from the Buddy Rich Big Band and Frank Sinatra to Natalie Cole, Joni Mitchell, and Paul Simon, Botti has now clearly become a major artist in his own right. He's found a form of creative expression that begins in jazz and expands beyond the limits of any single genre. With Impressions and its predecessors, Botti has thoroughly established himself as one of the important, innovative figures of the contemporary music world.
