FEATURING:

Braxton Cook, tenor saxophone
Alphonso Horne, trumpet
Andrew Clausen, trombone
David Lantz, piano
Joshua Crumbly, bass
Sammy Miller, drums

Art Blakey had The Jazz Messengers for nearly 50 years. Although the group was started by pianist Horace Silver, Blakey quickly became the driving force behind what became one of jazz's most notable institutions. During the years of The Jazz Messengers, the group helped launch and propel the careers of some of this music's most legendary composers and soloists, including Freddie Hubbard, Jackie McLean, Benny Golson, Bobby Timmons, Clifford Brown, Horace Silver, Wynton Marsalis, Donald Harrison, Terence Blanchard, James Williams, and many others.

This afternoon, the Juilliard Jazz Ensemble will pay tribute to this great lineage of artists and music. As Blakey used to say, "Come on out and pat your foot and have a good time."
