Malcolm Parson
FEATURING:
Malcolm Parson, cello
Serghio Jansen, guitar
Marcos Antonio Torress III, percussion

A native of New Orleans, LA, Malcolm was born into a musical family in 1989 and began studying the violin at the age of 8 before moving to the cello the same year. He received his first personal violin as a recipient of the Louis Armstrong Foundation Inc “1997 Golden Horn Award” that recognized and awarded talented aspiring young musicians. Upon relocating to Atlanta, GA in 2000, he was selected to participate in the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra “Talent Development Program,” which allowed him to study with Atlanta Symphony Orchestra cellist Karen Freer. 2004 marked another milestone as The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS) awarded Malcolm his first personal cello. In 2005 he was Principal Cellist of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra, attended Interlochen Summer Music Institute, performed with the World Youth Symphony Orchestra, and won the Young Artist Competition where he was a featured soloist for the Atlanta Symphony Community Orchestra. A year later, he attended the Heifetz International Music Institute as well as performing as a featured soloist at the 2006 National Black Arts Festival “Classics from the Next Generation” concert in Atlanta, GA.

In 2007, he received a Presidential Scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music as well as a scholarship award from the Atlanta Federation of Musicians, Local 148-462. While attending Berklee College of Music, he studied with Greg Osby, Eugene Friesen, Rob Thomas, and Matt Glaser among others. In 2011, Malcolm graduated Sigma Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music with a degree in Contemporary Writing & Production.

Malcolm has had the honor to perform master classes, recitals, concerts, and clinics with Burt Bacharach, Bill Pierce (Art Blakey Jazz Messengers), Regina Carter, Appalachian Waltz Trio, Ron Carter, Paula Cole, Andre Watts, Matt Haimovitz, Bobby Yang, Janos Starker, Paco De Lucia, Patrice Rushen, and three time Grammy Award winning cellist Eugene Friesen to name a few. While performing throughout the United States and United Kingdom, he has had concerts at The Kennedy Center, Berklee Performance Center, Atlanta Symphony Hall, Kresge Auditorium, Spivey Hall, Rialto Center, and the Cathedral of St John the Divine.
