Carmen Lundy
FEATURING:
Carmen Lundy, vocals
Anthony Wonsey, piano
Curtis Lundy, bass
Jamison Ross, drums

Carmen Lundy began her professional career as a jazz vocalist and composer when there were very few young and aspiring jazz vocalists on the horizon. Three decades later, she is celebrated throughout the world for her vocal artistry and is highly regarded for her jazz innovation. Her contribution of over 40 self-penned compositions now comprises the New Jazz Songbook.

Having recorded a dozen albums as a leader, Lundy has also performed and recorded with such musicians as brother and bassist Curtis Lundy, Kenny Barron, Bruce Hornsby, Mulgrew Miller, Roy Hargrove, Jimmy Cobb, Ron Carter, Marian McPartland, Geri Allen, Robert Glasper, and Kenny Kirkland. Her 2005 release, the critically acclaimed Jazz and The New Songbook: Live at The Madrid, features some of the jazz world's best known musicians paying her tribute.

Lundy's work as a vocalist and composer has been critically acclaimed by The New York Times, The Village Voice, The Los Angeles Times, and The Washington Post, as well as numerous foreign publications. As a composer, her catalog numbers over 60 published songs and has led to the first publication of the Carmen Lundy Songbook (2007). Her songs have been recorded by such artists as Kenny Barron, Ernie Watts, and Straight Ahead, and can also be found on her own recordings.

Lundy is also a gifted theater actress. "Acting," as she told Dr. Billy Taylor in 2006, "helps me to get more comfortable and acquainted with the art of performance." She performed the lead role as Billie Holiday in Lawrence Holder's Off-Off-Broadway play They Were All Gardenias, as well as the lead role in the Broadway show Sophisticated Ladies. She also made her television debut as the star of the CBS show Shangri-La Plaza in the role of Geneva, after which she relocated to Los Angeles, where she currently resides.

After a string of excellent releases on Justin Time and Afrasia Productions in the '00s, including This is Carmen Lundy (2001), Something to Believe In (2003), Come Home (2007), and Solamente (2009), Lundy recently released her 12th and latest studio album, Changes (2012). One of her finest ever, the disc features eight new originals composed and arranged by Lundy herself, and one lone but standout classic: "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square." Featuring her core band of stellar musicians, the album is sure to win over old and new fans alike.
