"Roy Assaf is a jazzman on the rise. Even at his young age, he brings a mature mix of knowledge and intuition to the bandstand that results in mercurial explorations."

Roy Assaf CD Release Show
FEATURING:
Roy Assaf, piano
Clarence Penn, drums
Yasushi Nakamura, bass

Breaking into the music scene only a few years ago, pianist Roy Assaf has already toured with the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band and performed with dozens of notable artists, including Randy Brecker, Roy Hargrove, James Moody, Lewis Nash, T.S. Monk, Barry Harris, Dr. Billy Taylor, Steve Davis, Ron Carter, and Trilok Gurtu. A native of Israel and graduate of the Berklee College of Music and Manhattan School of Music, he has won numerous DownBeat Student Awards and has led his own projects in performances at international festivals and on national Israeli television and radio programs.

With appearances on over 20 albums as a sideman and co-leader, Assaf's debut album as a leader, Respect, came out this spring on Jazz Legacy Productions. This afternoon at the Blue Note, the pianist celebrates the release of this album with a special performance by his trio.
