Theophilus London
FEATURING:
Theophilus London, voice
Other musicians, TBA

Culture vultures and hardcore music fans alike already known urban electro-pop phenom Theophilus London from his self-starting music trajectory, as well as from his style icon profiles in GQ, Esquire, Elle, The New York Times, Complex, Fader, and more. A native of Trinidad, London spent time growing up in Brooklyn before moving to the Poconos, where he graduated from high school in 2006. He first began making waves at the end of the '00s with a series of wildly popular independent mixtapes, including Jam! (2008), This Charming Mixtape (2009), and I Want You (2010).

In 2011, London signed with Warner Bros. Records, quickly releasing his debut EP on the label, Lovers Holiday. His full-length label debut, Timez are Weird These Days, followed the same year. His subsequent string of performances, including appearances at the Cannes Film Festival, the Northside Festival in Brooklyn, and the Montreal International Jazz Festival, created a tremendous media buzz around the singer and emcee. As the Montreal Gazette declared, "Theophilus London is going to be big. Very big."

Featuring popular cuts like "I Stand Alone," "Last Name London," and "Why Even Try," Timez are Weird is London's most fully-realized work to date. Filled with original music, genre-bending sound, mesmerizing storytelling, and inspired, honest emotion, the album raises the bar on everything that's come before, moving past the comfort zone of sampledelia and oddball cover tunes into the dreamlike headspace of a globetrotting young artist blurring the lines between '80s rap, new wave beats, freestyle noise, and the snarling guitars of psychobilly surf rock.

Recorded in New York City, Los Angeles, and Stockholm, Timez are Weird showcases London as a rapper and a songwriter, showcasing a set of influences that range from Michael Jackson and Prince to Kraftwerk and The Smiths. The tracks on the disc move through a surprising range of emotions, from party-starting dance floor defiance to moments of quiet intimacy and introspection. "The world is finally catching up with [Theophilus London]" declared the Alternative Press. "If you like your Golden Age-style hip-hop mashed up with love for Morrisey and Marvin Gaye, then make London your destination."
