FEATURING:
Candice Anitra, voice
Other musicians, TBA
Blending poetry and melody, left-of-soul songstress Candice Anitra explores the fine lines between genders, self-love and loathing, and the polarities that exist in us all. She is one part soul singer, and equal parts rabble-rouser and philosopher, with her edgy, electro-rock-infused, sultry songs. After releasing an EP in 2008, Anitra's full-length debut, Bark then Bite, dropped in 2010. It wasn't long before the praises began to roll in from Soul Tracks, Rolling Out, Soul Bounce, and more.
Anitra's Kickstarter-funded sophomore effort, Big Tree, came out earlier this year. The album, like Anitra, deftly defies genre classication. "I'm messy!" she declares. "I don't fit and I never have. I don't always have to be provocative, but I can be. I like to explore the masculine, the feminine, and the androgynous. That, to me, seems like a fair representation of me as a full artist. This is my peace."
