The Blue Note kicks off it's 30th year with the sensational singer, songwriter, producer, and actress Ms. Lauryn Hill, who will be appearing at the Blue Note for the first time in her illustrious career. Ms. Hill broke through the hip-hop scene with the supergroup The Fugees, formed with friends Wycliffe Jean and Prakazrel "Pras" Michel while still in high school. The group's second album, The Score, featured Ms. Hill's vocals on tracks like "Killing Me Softly" went on to sell 17 million copies.
But it was her ground-breaking debut solo album The Mis-Education of Lauryn Hill, released in 1998, that turned her into an international superstar. Miseducation reigned at the top of the charts throughout the year and garnered her five Grammy awards out of 11 nominations, making her the first woman to ever win five Grammy awards in a single year. Her next release, the double-CD MTV Unplugged No. 2.0 was released in 2002. Since Ms. Hill has largely stayed out of the spotlight over the last decade, her highly anticipated Blue Note performances from January 3 – 5 will undoubtedly be her most intimate in years.
