Marcus Strickland, Stanley Cowell, and the leader, among others. Tolliver, who earned a Grammy nomination with last year’s big band record, showcases
hiswriting, arranging and conducting skills, prodding the 19-piece band to step out
boldly. It is an audacious performance, capturing all at the peak of their powers,
clearly drawing inspiration from the energy and vitality of New York’s foremostjazz club.
